Spotlight On Maplewood
Public safety and Citizen Commissions and advisory boards are the focus of this edition. We recently honored and recognized Maplewood Police Sergeant Joe Bergeron who made the ultimate sacrifice for the people our town. In honor of Sargent the Maplewood section of Minnesota Highway 36 will be renamed the Sergeant Joseph Bergeron Memorial Highway. Our State Representatives made this possible. We take a look at the State House session that passed the law making it possible.
There is a long history of Volunteer firefighters here in Maplewood. The Maplewood Area Historical Society is keeping their stories alive through an oral history project. We take a look at a their recent work.
Long before Maplewood was incorporated people appreciated this beautiful area. They planed for open spaces and trees. Maplewood parks staff came together with the Heritage Preservation Commission and the Maplewood Area Historical Society to uncover the mystery of the missing groves.
Our City Council appoints residents who volunteer to serve on City Commissions and boards. As a member of a City commission, you serve as a community advisor to the City Council. Volunteering requires time and effort and provides an opportunity for genuine public service.
