Spotlight On Maplewood December 2013
The Minnesota House Capital Investment Committees Chair Alice Hausman, visited Maplewood on Tuesday, October 29th. Two Maplewood sites that are seeking a portion of the 4 billion dollars worth of requests received by the committee for consideration in the 2014 bonding bill.
Beverly Dusso, President and Chief Executive Officer of Harriet Tubman Family Alliance and Tamara Stark Director for Youth and Family Services who are seeking funds for a bond of $720,000 to remodel two additional floors of the Tubman Center. The additional space will be used for young victims of sex exploitation and trafficking and for homeless youth.
Police Chief Paul Schnell speaks about the issue of domestic violence and how it is on the rise across the country including our City. Chief Schnell will tell us what we as a community can do to help with awareness and education.
The Minnesota House Capital Investment Committee made a second visit in Maplewood to the site of the East Metro Public Safety Training Center which will be located on vacant property west of 5 and 120. The city is requesting 1.8 million dollars as part of the bonding bill. The Training Center will be used by Maplewood, Oakdale, North St. Paul and numerous other fire departments in the metro area. There we will hear from Fire Chief Steve Lukin explaining the value of the training facility to the community.
